The beginning...

Welcome to Historical Inspirations!

Living history has always been one of my favorite parts of studying times gone by. What better way then joining in and getting dressed up yourself. I love studying the behind the scenes of their clothing and learning about the people through my research. The clothing I make is not 100% accurate (e.g. everything is not sewed by hand, covered buttons have modern medal base), but I strive to have the over all look be accurate and usually the clothing is inspired after paintings or original pieces (thus Historical Inspirations)

I love others to be inspired themselves and hope the research, inspirations, and picture tutorials will be a help. If you have any questions please email me at thomaschildren@yahoo.com with Historical Inspiration in the subject line.

May the research of the different years help encouarge us to look and learn the lessons from the past that we may tell it to future generations, that we may declare the works of God and put our hope in Him as it says in Psalm 78:1-8

Psalm 78: 1-8

 1 Give ear, O my people, to my law;
         Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
 2 I will open my mouth in a parable;
         I will utter dark sayings of old,
 3 Which we have heard and known,
         And our fathers have told us.
 4 We will not hide them from their children,
         Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD,
         And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

 5 For He established a testimony in Jacob,
         And appointed a law in Israel,
         Which He commanded our fathers,
         That they should make them known to their children;
 6 That the generation to come might know them,
         The children who would be born,
         That they may arise and declare them to their children,
 7 That they may set their hope in God,
         And not forget the works of God,
         But keep His commandments;
 8 And may not be like their fathers,
         A stubborn and rebellious generation,
         A generation that did not set its heart aright,
         And whose spirit was not faithful to God.
A big thank you to Pa for setting the example of loving history and learning the lessons from the past, to Mom for allowing me the time to study and sew, to my sister and fellow sewer, Melissa for always giving good advice, keeping me focused, finding great fabric deals, listening to my many questions, to my brothers for inspirational day dreaming and to Pam Macbeth and Jeannine Yokel for teaching me so many sewing techniques and being such an encouragement and inspiration to continue sewing and sharing it with others and to Amanda Flynn and Josh Lueken for helping make pattern alterations and designing less intimidating and more fun!
